Last Moments Before Lucy McHugh’s Murder Revealed by Police
Police have released CCTV footage showing the final confirmed sighting of 13-year-old Lucy McHugh before her tragic murder. The footage, captured at 9.30am on Wednesday 25 July, shows Lucy at the Tesco Express on the corner of Coxford Road and Lordswood Road in southampton/" title="Southampton" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Southampton.
This places Lucy close to the Sports Centre, where her body was discovered at 7.45am the following day.
Police Urge Public to Help Trace Lucy’s Steps
Detective Superintendent Paul Barton said: “Since leaving her house in Mansel Road East at 9am on 25 July, we know Lucy was near the Sports Centre just 30 minutes later. We need to find out how she got to Tesco Express and where she went after that.”
He appeals to drivers and pedestrians who were in the area at the time, urging them to check for any dash cam or other footage that could help the investigation.
“We hope this CCTV will jog memories so we can piece together Lucy’s movements,” he added. “She was carrying her jacket on a hot day and might have been wearing a white vest top.”
Last Known Outfit and What Police Are Looking For
- Distinctive black jacket with white sleeves featuring a Falling in Reverse band logo and “RADKE 01” in red on the back (carried, not worn)
- White vest top
- Camouflage leggings
- Black and white Jordan 23 trainers
Police also called on runners and walkers who were near the murder scene to review their maps from the date and time, in case they can recall anything suspicious.
Suspect Arrested and Bail Conditions
A 24-year-old Southampton man was arrested on suspicion of Lucy’s murder and sexual activity with a child. He was technically bailed with strict conditions preventing him from entering Southampton.
Additionally, he faces charges for refusing to disclose his Facebook password to detectives investigating the case. He is currently remanded in custody until 31 August.
