Life Behind Bars for Torbay Rapist Lewis Stewart
Lewis Stewart, 28, has been handed a life sentence with a minimum of 18 years after being found guilty of raping two women earlier this year. Exeter Crown Court delivered the verdict on Thursday, September 14, with Judge Climie condemning Stewart’s vile crimes.
Savage Crimes Exposed in Court
Stewart, who had no fixed address and lived in Torbay, was convicted of three counts of rape. He also admitted to possessing drugs and breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
The court heard how Stewart preyed on two women, luring them into a taxi before taking them to a location where he committed the assaults. In a chilling twist, Stewart bragged about his crimes to the victims the very next day.
When police arrested Stewart, they seized his phone. Disturbingly, officers found photos of one victim in a vulnerable state and evidence of drug possession and dealing.
Justice Served After Gruelling Trial
After nine days in court, a unanimous jury found Stewart guilty of all charges. Sentencing him to life imprisonment, the judge described Stewart as a “highly sophisticated and manipulative offender” with a pattern of controlling and coercive behaviour towards women.
“Stewart presents a real risk to the public, and this is reflected in the sentence he has been given by the courts,” said Detective Sergeant Parsons, the lead investigator. He praised the victims’ courage for coming forward.
Superintendent Nicky Seager of Devon & Cornwall Police hailed the sentence as a clear message that offenders will be held to account. “This case shows our commitment to protecting communities and supporting victims,” she said.
Mark Major from the Crown Prosecution Service added, “The victims’ bravery was outstanding. Our dedication to justice for victims of rape and sexual assault remains unwavering, no matter how long ago the offences took place.”
