Met Police swoop on 22-year-old at Stansted for terror offences

Detectives from the Met Police Counter Terrorism Command arrested a 22-year-old man at Stansted Airport on Monday, 12 October. He’s suspected of encouraging terrorism and spreading terrorist material, offences under the Terrorism Act 2006.

Arrest at Stansted Airport

The man was stopped under Schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act 2000 at around 5.30pm and taken into custody under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984. The bust happened swiftly as officers acted on intelligence.

Further Charges and Detention

In the early hours of Wednesday, 14 October, he was hit with an additional arrest under section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000. This latest suspicion involves collecting information likely useful for terrorism planning or execution, a breach of section 58 of the same Act.

Later that day, Westminster Magistrates’ Court approved a warrant allowing police to hold the man until Monday, 19 October.
