Mother Murdered at Notting Hill Carnival: 20-Year-Old Found Guilty
A 20-year-old man has been convicted of murdering a devoted mum who was stabbed fatally while enjoying Notting Hill Carnival with her toddler daughter.
Tragic Carnival Night Turns Deadly
Cher Maximen, 32, was celebrating with friends and her three-year-old in west London’s famous street festival on 25 August 2024. The fun turned to horror when she was caught up in a violent fight and stabbed with a 12cm knife to the groin.
She suffered catastrophic internal bleeding and passed away in hospital on 31 August.
Heroic Mum Tried to Stop Street Violence
During the trial, prosecutor Ed Brown KC revealed Cher was simply crouched chatting when chaos erupted. She bravely stepped in to calm the situation — but paid the ultimate price.
“She was not looking for trouble. She was with her young daughter and friends, enjoying the carnival,” said Mr Brown. “She was trying to stop violence, not be a part of it — and it cost her life.”
Shakeil Thibou, from London, denied the murder charge but was found unanimously guilty by the jury.
Family in Shock After Senseless Killing
The community was rocked by Cher’s death. Loved ones and local leaders flooded with grief and tributes for the “loving and full-of-life” mum.
“Cher was full of love and light. She adored her daughter and was doing everything right. That her life ended in such a brutal way is beyond comprehension,” said a family spokesperson.
Police Vow to Boost Safety at Public Events
The Metropolitan Police described the killing as “senseless and tragic,” stressing Cher was enjoying a family day out when violence struck.
They promised to work closely with event organisers to improve security at major gatherings like Notting Hill Carnival.
Sentencing Looms as Calls to Fight Knife Crime Grow
Thibou faces sentencing soon, with courts set to factor in the attack’s public setting and the presence of children. This case has sparked fresh demands for tougher action on knife crime at crowded events.
