28 Cars Seized in Ryde and Newport Crackdown

Neighbourhood and roads policing officers teamed up with the DVLA on Thursday 30 May for a major vehicle and traffic offence blitz in Ryde and Newport. The result? A whopping 28 vehicles were seized for licence, insurance, and tax violations.

Speeding and Phone Use Catch Drivers Out

As if that wasn’t enough, officers issued 21 fixed penalty notices for offences including mobile phone use while driving and not wearing seatbelts. Meanwhile, the community safety van clocked 21 drivers speeding in the Ryde area, with those caught facing summons to court.

Drug Driving Arrest Adds to Day’s Success

Policing efforts also led to the arrest of a 50-year-old man from Shanklin on suspicion of drug driving. He has since been released under investigation while inquiries continue.

Sergeant Sam Warne from the neighbourhood policing team said: “There is a clear link between these types of offences and the potential for other forms of criminal activity. This was a very successful day of activities and the offences detected highlight the value of joint working.”
