A devastating crash unfolded around 2pm on Saturday, 20th January 2024, on Thurnham Lane near Pilgrims Way and The Street in Bearsted. The collision, described by police as “life-changing,” involved a black BMW X5 and two pedestrians walking a dog. Tragically, the man and woman, both in their 60s, and the dog were pronounced dead at the scene.

Thurnham Lane remains closed in both directions—from The Street in Bearsted to Pilgrims Way in Thurnham—as police work to piece together what happened. Drivers are urged to find alternate routes and exercise extreme caution, especially given thick ice near the motorway bridge on Water Lane, which creates dangerous road conditions. Police continue to seek witnesses to this fatal collision and advise motorists to stay tuned for the latest updates.
