Britain’s pride and joy, the brand-new aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth, has sprung a leak. The £3.1 billion Royal Navy flagship, officially commissioned by the Queen just weeks ago, is taking on up to 200 litres of seawater every hour thanks to a dodgy propeller shaft seal.
Fault Discovered During Sea Trials
The fault was first spotted during sea trials, a Royal Navy spokesperson confirmed. Despite the leak, the carrier’s operations won’t be affected long-term. “An issue with a shaft seal has been identified during HMS Queen Elizabeth’s sea trials; this is scheduled for repair while she is alongside at Portsmouth,” the spokesperson said.
