Ryde School Sets Sail in Prestigious Round The Island Yacht Race

Ryde School scored a major coup by borrowing two sleek J70 yachts from the Royal Thames Yacht Club to compete in the iconic Round The Island Yacht Race.

First-Timers Take on 50 Nautical Miles

On board Ryde School Blue were Year 10 rookies Ruby, Sam, Catherine, Kai, and Alice — all sailing the famous 50.1 nautical mile route around the Isle of Wight for the very first time.

Meanwhile, Ryde School Red featured the more seasoned Year 11 crew: Fred, Finn, Noah, Killian, and Monty.

Braving The Weather, Nailing The Course

Despite grim Friday weather, both teams impressed by expertly navigating the demanding race. The annual event, running since 1931, is a highlight of the sailing calendar, pitting amateurs and pros side by side.

This race was a golden opportunity for Ryde’s young sailors to test their skills against the best, and they certainly didn’t disappoint.
