Blazing Irony: Firefighters Called to Blaze at Their Own Fire Station
Winchester firefighters found themselves in a right pickle on Sunday, May 14, 2017, after a fire broke out at their very own fire station in Alresford. The blaze erupted in the drying room, where firefighters hang their gear to dry—an ironic twist, to say the least.
Quick Response from Local Fire Crews
Engines from Winchester, Hightown, and the local retained station rushed to the scene. They deployed a water jet, hose reel, and four sets of breathing apparatus to douse the flames. Despite the drama, the station is back in business as usual.
No Injuries and Full Investigation Underway
The building is shared with Hampshire Police, but thankfully, no staff were inside at the time of the fire just after 10:30am. Everyone is safe and accounted for. An investigation has been launched to get to the bottom of how the fire started.
Firefighters’ resilience plans ensured the community’s protection was not compromised during the incident.
