Met Police Officer Axed for Sexually Inappropriate Conduct on Night Out
A Metropolitan Police officer has been sacked after a misconduct hearing found he behaved in a sexually inappropriate way towards a colleague during a night out.
PC Jason Brooking Caught Out
PC Jason Brooking, from the Central North command unit, faced serious allegations of discreditable conduct. The incident happened on January 26, 2022, when Brooking touched a fellow officer in a sexual manner without consent.
Central North’s Chief Superintendent Andy Carter slammed the behaviour. He said, “PC Brooking’s actions were unwanted, grossly invasive, and entirely wrong. Either he did not realise how inappropriate his behaviour was, or he thought he could get away with it. Both are deeply troubling.”
Investigation and Hearing
The Directorate of Professional Standards launched a probe in March 2022 after the complaint was made. Although the Crown Prosecution Service decided there was no criminal case, the DPS pushed for a misconduct hearing.
At the hearing on September 27, an independent chair panel ruled that Brooking’s conduct on January 26 was proven. A similar claim from the following days was not proven.
Dismissal and Lifetime Ban from Policing
Brooking was dismissed without notice following the verdict. He will also be placed on the College of Policing’s barred list, ensuring he cannot work for any police force, local policing bodies, the Independent Office for Police Conduct or HM Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services.
This dismissal sends a clear message that misconduct of this nature will not be tolerated within the ranks.
