Protesters Storm Proms and The Last Leg in Daring Climate Stunts
Environmental activists from Just Stop Oil crashed two major UK broadcasts on Friday night, causing chaos at the Royal Albert Hall and during Channel 4’s live comedy show, The Last Leg.
Proms Mayhem: Confetti Cannons and Air Horns
At the Proms opening night, two protesters charged the stage, firing off confetti cannons and blaring air horns to get their message across. They unfurled banners and tried to speak to the stunned audience before being swiftly hauled away. The crowd’s reaction was mixed, with some booing and others applauding their bold move. The BBC, which broadcasts the iconic classical event, insisted the concert and live broadcast went on undisrupted and denied the use of air horns and confetti.
The Last Leg Hosts Ambushed Live On Air
Later that evening, three activists wearing Just Stop Oil t-shirts infiltrated The Last Leg set during the live show. They handed bright orange hi-vis vests to hosts, shocking viewers and interrupting the comedy flow. Host Adam Hills quickly dismissed the stunt as not part of the programme. One protester even hugged Hills before the group was escorted off the stage.
Who Are The Protesters?
- Kate Logan, 38, a mother of two from London
- Pia Bastide, 29, a London community worker
Bastide spoke out, vowing, “I refuse to accept that my future is being sold away, one new oil license at a time, and do nothing.”
Just Stop Oil’s Campaign Continues
Known for disrupting high-profile events, Just Stop Oil demands an end to new oil, gas, and coal projects. Their dramatic protests aim to spotlight the destructive environmental impact of fossil fuels and pressure the government to stop issuing new licenses. Friday’s incidents at the Proms and The Last Leg are the latest acts in their relentless campaign.
