Twisted Predator Jailed for 12 Years After Raping and Strangling Teen

Horrific Attack Just Hours After Meeting Victim

Mirza Begg, 34, from Small Heath, Birmingham, has been locked up for 12 years after brutally attacking an 18-year-old woman he met on a flat-sharing app. Begg lured the teenager with a false promise of a place to stay. Within hours of meeting, he threatened to kill her during a savage assault at his home.

The court revealed Begg terrified the victim by showing off a chilling collection of knives, a sword, and bullets before his attack. The woman was held captive but eventually managed to alert a friend, who helped police rescue her.

Convicted on Multiple Serious Charges

  • Rape
  • Two counts of assault by penetration
  • Threatening with a bladed weapon
  • Assault

After a trial at Birmingham Crown Court, jurors rejected Begg’s claims that the sex was consensual. The victim had contacted him via the Roomies flat-sharing app, leading to the nightmare encounter when he picked her up in a borrowed car.

Previous Convictions and Sentence Details

Begg has a criminal record including battery and theft. He must serve at least eight years in prison before qualifying for parole.

“He set a deliberate trap for this extremely vulnerable young woman,” the court was told.
