Big Crackdown on Uninsured Drivers Kicks Off This Week
From Monday 15 November to Sunday 21 November 2021, police officers will ramp up checks on uninsured vehicles as part of Operation Drive Insured.
Deadly Toll of Uninsured Driving
Every year in the UK, uninsured or untraced drivers cause havoc on the roads. A staggering 130 people are killed and 26,000 injured in collisions involving uninsured motorists – that’s one casualty every 20 minutes. Even worse, one in five road crashes involve an uninsured or untraced driver.
Police Warn: Uninsured Driving Costs You More Than Just Fines
Roads Policing Chief Inspector Craig West said:
“The use of uninsured vehicles causes an increased risk of harm to our communities.
In the event of a collision with an uninsured driver, the costs often fall to the law-abiding motorist who may lose their no-claims bonus and have to cover their own excess.
Those driving without insurance are also often linked to other crimes. We’re determined to get these risky vehicles off our streets.”
Seize and Slam: Tough Penalties for Uninsured Drivers
Officers seize uninsured cars daily and can instantly check insurance status. Drivers caught face:
- Vehicle seizure – risking destruction
- Six penalty points on their licence
- A £300 fine
The message is crystal clear: if you don’t have insurance, don’t drive.
