Romford Man Dies After Falling in Front of Train
A Romford man who fell in front of a train at Romford station has been formally named as 56-year-old Damon Taylor.
Mr Taylor, from Medora Road, Romford, tragically died on February 2 at the Royal London Hospital, two days after the horrific incident on January 31.
Inquest Opens at East London Coroner’s Court
At East London Coroner’s Court in Walthamstow on February 11, senior coroner Graeme Irvine confirmed an inquest into Mr Taylor’s death.
“It would appear that the injuries were sustained having fallen in front of a train at Romford,” said Mr Irvine, revealing Mr Taylor suffered severe neurological trauma.
The case was originally referred to Poplar Coroner’s Court as Mr Taylor died in Whitechapel’s Royal London Hospital but was transferred to Mr Irvine due to the incident occurring within his jurisdiction.
Doctors listed the cause of death as “traumatic brain injury.” Mr Taylor was identified by British Transport Police and a close friend, the court heard.
Full Inquest Scheduled for July
Mr Irvine confirmed the death was not natural causes, prompting a full inquest. He named Mr Taylor’s next of kin as an “interested person”, giving them the right to review evidence and question witnesses.
The coroner has requested key evidence including:
- Police and ambulance service reports
- GP and hospital medical records
- CCTV footage and witness statements collected by British Transport Police
The full inquest is adjourned until July 28.
