Sex Offender Spybey Found Guilty After Victim’s Brave Court Battle
Spybey, a drifter formerly of Sandleford Road, Havant, has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman last October. The 7.15pm attack left his victim traumatised and forced to endure a tense court trial after he denied the offence.
Knife-Wielding Predator Attacked Woman Getting Into Car
The victim was getting into a parked car when Spybey approached her, groping her over her clothes and attempting to hug and kiss her. She firmly rejected him.
Angered, Spybey brandished a knife and grew confrontational. Despite his threats, the woman managed to escape and get home safely.
She reported the terrifying ordeal online the next day, providing key details that allowed police to identify and arrest Spybey the same day.
Police Praise Victim’s Courage As Jury Convicts
Spybey insisted he was innocent, but the jury found him guilty of sexual assault.
The defendant had already pleaded guilty to carrying a bladed weapon. Police found the knife on him at the time of arrest.
“This was undoubtedly a traumatic ordeal for the woman. I cannot praise her enough for her courage and bravery,” said DC Dana Mabe, lead investigator. “Thanks to her strength, we’ve brought Spybey to justice. This verdict should give hope to survivors that Hampshire Constabulary stands with them.”
Spybey’s Troubled Past and Police Public Appeal
Spybey was recently jailed for threatening damage to property and assaulting a police officer with racist abuse. He also pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods and possessing cannabis. He had breached a suspended sentence for assaulting an emergency worker.
After the assault in October, police launched a public appeal warning of a man armed with a knife assaulting a woman on London Road.
