Brighton Teen Gets Suspended Jail for Threatening Two Women
Deadly Threats Over Christmas
Brighton’s own Zaine Reid, just 18, has lucked out with a suspended sentence after terrifying two women his age. Between 6 and 27 December last year, Reid bombarded the women with chilling text threats to kill them, hire attackers, and even petrol bomb their homes.
Violent Arrest Ends in Court
When cops came knocking on 27 December, Reid didn’t back down. He resisted arrest and attacked two emergency workers. He faced serious charges including malicious communications, harassment, assaulting officers, and causing actual bodily harm.
Sentence Delivered, Restraining Order Imposed
At Brighton Magistrates’ Court on 24 February, Reid pleaded guilty to malicious communications and harassment, and was found guilty of assaulting emergency workers. He was cleared of causing bodily harm. On 10 March, he was handed 24 weeks in prison – suspended for 24 months – plus four weeks for assaulting the officers. A strict three-year restraining order was also slapped on him.
Police Praise Victims, Condemn Offender
PC Philip Peck applauded the bravery of the two women who stood firm during the investigation. He slammed Reid for unleashing “terrifying threats” and highlighted the serious attacks on officers who tried to arrest him.
