Teen Shot in Stretford: Police Launch Manhunt

A 16-year-old boy was seriously injured in a shocking shooting on Langdale Road, Stretford, on Thursday evening. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) are scrambling to piece together what happened and are cracking down on crime in the area.

Rapid Response and Arrests

Officers raced to the scene around 4.30pm after receiving an emergency call from the North West Ambulance Service. The teenager suffered a serious chest wound from close-range shotgun fire and remains hospitalised, though his condition is stable.

GMP swiftly detained two local teens, aged 15 and 16, on suspicion of attempted murder. Both suspects are currently in custody and under intense questioning.

Stop-and-Search Powers Activated

To prevent further violence, police have invoked a 24-hour Section 60 order in Stretford and Trafford. This gives officers expanded stop-and-search authority across the area from 3pm August 11 until 3pm August 12.

Detective Superintendent Lewis Hughes, head of GMP’s Serious Crime Division, said: “This incident is extremely serious. We’re working flat out to investigate every detail and reassure the local community.”

Targeted Attack, Community on Edge

Hughes revealed the boy was confronted by a large group of around 14 people—some on foot, others on bikes—before being shot with a shotgun at point-blank range.

“It is simply horrific that those responsible think this is acceptable behaviour, especially since the victim is so young,” Hughes added.

He urged witnesses to come forward, warning that suspects remain at large and the weapon has not been found. “We believe this was a targeted attack, which may reassure some residents.”

Call for Witnesses and Evidence

The Major Incident Team is leading the probe, with uniformed officers and PCSOs ramping up foot and mobile patrols. GMP is appealing for anyone with dashcam, CCTV, or doorbell footage to get in touch.

  • Contact GMP on 0161 856 4081 or 101, quoting log 2552 of 10/8/23

Local councils are working closely with police to keep the community safe during this tense time.
