Husband Jailed for Life After Brutal Murder of Wife

Asim Hasan, 33, from Newham, was handed a life sentence at the Old Bailey on Thursday, 6 July. He will serve a minimum of 21 years for the savage murder of his 34-year-old wife, Aaisha Hasan.

Hasan was found guilty in April following a harrowing trial.

Family Heartbreak: Aaisha’s Sister Speaks Out

Aaisha’s sister revealed the family’s anguish: “I cannot help but feel that a part of me has died with her. The grief and pain of losing someone so close is indescribable. Losing her to murder has left her children motherless, compounding our sorrow.”

She added, “The fact her own husband committed this brutal crime leaves me struggling with shock, anger, and disbelief. The betrayal by someone meant to protect her has only deepened my pain and sense of injustice.”

“The void she has left will never be filled, but I will carry her spirit with me as a reminder of the love and light she brought to this world.”

Horror Details From the Court

  • Hasan called 999 at 6:24am on 19 May 2022, admitting to stabbing his wife.
  • Emergency services rushed to the scene and attempted CPR, but Aaisha was declared dead at the scene.
  • The post-mortem revealed 36 sharp force injuries, including at least 26 stab wounds.

The court heard the couple’s relationship was fraught with tension and arguments over money and Hasan’s abusive behaviour.

Aaisha was so scared she secretly recorded Hasan’s violent outbursts and confided in friends. Just 10 days before the killing, she messaged: “I don’t want to call the police on him coz this can get him into serious trouble, I just want him out the house now. I don’t feel safe.”

Days later, Hasan trapped Aaisha in a room and threatened her with a knife, warning he would kill her. Neighbours called police after overhearing the row, but Aaisha made no formal complaint, and the police took no further action.

Detective’s Warning: Speak Out Against Domestic Abuse

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Rogers, Met Specialist Crime Command: “Hasan carried out a ferocious and savage attack, stabbing Aaisha at least 26 times. She tried to defend herself but stood no chance.

“Hasan denied intending serious harm, but the jury rightly disagreed. No one launches such a brutal sustained assault without intent to cause serious injury.”

“Domestic abuse is often hidden and under-reported. Many victims suffer in silence, fearing for their safety at home. Our clear message is: reach out to police or support agencies. We will respond sensitively, help keep you safe, and deal firmly with perpetrators.”
