Folkestone Traffic Blitz Nets Three Arrests and 26 Offenders in One Day
Kent Police cracked down hard on dangerous driving in Folkestone last Friday, making three arrests and spotting 26 road traffic offences in just one day. The multi-agency swoop targeted trouble hotspots across Park Farm, Middleburg Square, Tontine Street, and nearby areas.
Dramatic Foot Chase Ends in Arrest
The highlight was a nail-biting foot chase through a multi-storey car park. Officers spotted a 43-year-old man driving the wrong way down a one-way street. When he refused to stop, the driver bolted on foot but was swiftly caught. He now faces suspicion of drug driving and multiple traffic offences.
Two more men, aged 33 and 48, were also arrested for suspected drug driving after being stopped in Middleburg Square and Cheriton Road. All three were later released on bail pending ongoing investigations.
Wide-Ranging Offences Unearthed
In total, police dealt with 26 offences on the day, including:
- Seven drivers caught without seatbelts
- Five drivers caught using mobiles at the wheel
- Illegal window tints, damaged lights, unsafe loads, illegal tyres, and non-compliant motorcycle exhausts
- Two uninsured vehicles seized
- Several motorists driving without valid MOTs or licences
Officers issued four penalty notices and handed out road safety advice to 30 motorists. Meanwhile, Folkestone & Hythe Council officers checked taxi and waste carrier licences during the operation.
Police Warn: Drive Safe or Face the Consequences
“We targeted drivers most likely to cause trouble on Folkestone’s roads,” said PC Kevin Marsh, who led the operation. “Anyone driving without the proper licence, insurance, or a roadworthy vehicle puts others at serious risk.
“Working with the Road Safety Unit and our partners allowed us to tackle a wide range of offences and disrupt criminal activity. This sends a strong message about the importance of safe driving.”
Kent Police confirmed more operations are planned to keep road crime down and make the region’s streets safer for everyone.
