Three Charged Over Hackney Stabbing Death of Jason ‘LD’ Romeo

Three men have been charged with the murder of 20-year-old Jason Junior Romeo, fatally stabbed in Hackney on Tuesday evening. Known locally as “LD,” Romeo was attacked around 6pm on Bodney Road and died at the scene despite emergency efforts.

Accused Men Named

  • Raynolph Asante, 22, Pembury Road
  • Travis Mitchell, 21, Bodney Road
  • Rhamyah Bailey-Edwards, 21, Williams Avenue, Walthamstow

All three have been charged with murder and are set to appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Monday. Additionally, an 18-year-old man arrested on Saturday remains in police custody on suspicion of murder.

Hackney Community in Shock

The tragic killing has devastated locals. A Hackney resident who knew Romeo called him a “good guy” and “not a trouble-maker.” Another told us, “What did he do to be dead? He’s like family to me and my son. I can’t even tell my son that this boy is dead.”

Police Investigations and Ongoing Concerns

Two other men, aged 23 and 25, initially arrested for murder, were released but re-arrested on suspicion of possessing Class B drugs with intent to supply. They have been bailed pending further inquiries.

Hackney has been rocked by a surge in violent crime recently, including:

  • The shooting of a nine-year-old girl and three adults outside a Dalston eatery in May
  • The stabbing of 15-year-old Pharrell Garcia in July
