Boxing Day Nightclub Stabbing: Two Men Charged with Murder

On Boxing Day, tragedy struck at Digbeth’s Crane nightclub when 23-year-old non-league footballer and school sports coach was fatally stabbed on the dance floor.

Suspects Appear in Court

On Monday, 21-year-old Kami Carpenter and 22-year-old Remy Gordon, both from Birmingham, faced Birmingham Crown Court. The duo was charged with murder but were not asked to enter a plea. They did plead not guilty to a related affray charge and confirmed their identities in a brief four-minute hearing.

Carpenter, currently of no fixed address, and Gordon of Cofton Park Drive, Birmingham, were both remanded in custody. Their next court date is set for January 30.

Nightclub License Suspended Over “Serious Management Failings”

Following the stabbing, the Crane nightclub’s licence was slapped with a 28-day suspension last Friday. West Midlands Police slammed the venue, accusing it of “serious management failings” on the night of the fatal attack.

Officers at the scene described a “scene of chaos,” according to their review application. The club later issued a statement accepting the suspension and pledging full cooperation with the ongoing investigation.

Additional Arrests and Bail

A post-mortem confirmed the victim died from a stab wound. Meanwhile, a 22-year-old man previously arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on bail. Four more people arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender were also bailed.
