Two Men Jailed for Brutal Manslaughter of James Thorne in Wythenshawe

Violent Attack Turns Deadly

Two men have been locked up after the savage killing of James Thorne, 52. The father-of-grandchildren collapsed in a Wythenshawe shop after a vicious assault at his home.

Daniel Vesey, 41, from Farncombe Close, Wythenshawe, and Jason Trueman, 40, of Maybury Street, Gorton, were sentenced today at Manchester Crown Court. Both pleaded guilty to manslaughter and Section 18 wounding with intent.

Horrific Morning Assault

On the morning of Friday, 14 June 2024, Vesey and Trueman visited James’s home on Crowhurst Walk. Within ten minutes, they launched a brutal attack, inflicting serious head injuries.

That afternoon, James collapsed in a shop on Altrincham Road, telling staff he had been assaulted. Paramedics rushed him to hospital where he spent over two weeks in intensive care before dying on 1 July 2024.

Heavy Sentences for Violent Offenders

  • Daniel Vesey was handed an extended sentence of 19 years and six months.
  • Jason Trueman received an extended sentence of 18 years and 10 months.

Both were caught thanks to CCTV footage and witness statements, leading to swift charges.

Family Pay Heartbreaking Tribute

“James was a loving son, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He was also a very good friend to many. We are all devastated by his loss and he will be sadly missed by many,” the family said.

“Thank you to everyone for your compassion and support during this incredibly tough time. James will always hold a special place in our hearts.”

Police Condemn ‘Dangerous Individuals’

Detective Chief Inspector Duncan Thorpe, Senior Investigating Officer, said:

“Vesey and Trueman are dangerous individuals who have bullied vulnerable people in Wythenshawe for some time. Their violent actions resulted in James’s death. The consequences have shattered a family.”

“We hope today’s sentencing brings the family some closure and justice.”
