Historic Old Sarum Airfield Ravaged by Massive Blaze

Wiltshire Police have issued a fresh, urgent appeal for any footage and witnesses after a huge fire tore through Old Sarum Airfield on the evening of April 17. The inferno caused severe damage to a wartime hangar and nearby businesses.

Flames Engulf WWII Hangar and Local Café

The fire broke out shortly after 6pm, swallowing Hangar 3 — a partially derelict World War II structure — along with a café and another business close by. Fire crews fought the blaze for hours as thick smoke clouds billowed across the area, alarming locals and emergency services.

Police Hunt Crucial Footage in Ongoing Probe

The cause remains a mystery. Detectives want anyone with mobile phone, dashcam, or home security footage from around the airfield just before or during the fire to come forward.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who may have captured video of the fire or activity around the airfield in the minutes leading up to it. Even if you weren’t directly at the scene, your footage could be crucial in helping us determine the cause.”
