Police Smash Nationwide Brothel Ring in Kent and London Raids
Six Warrants, £4,800 Cash Seized
On the morning of Wednesday 31 March 2021, Kent and Essex’s Serious Crime Directorate executed six bold warrants targeting a nationwide brothel management ring. Cops swooped on multiple locations, seizing nearly £4,800 in cash, alongside two laptops, seven mobile phones, and key documents linked to prostitution control.
Three Arrested Across Kent and North London
A Gillingham raid in Balmoral Road saw a 33-year-old man arrested for suspicion of keeping a brothel, money laundering, and fraud. Meanwhile in North London, a 48-year-old woman with no fixed address and a 60-year-old man from Wood Green were also arrested on suspicion of brothel keeping. All three have since been released pending further inquiries.
One Charged and Remanded
Just two days after the crackdown, 35-year-old Yuan Hang of James Gardens, Wood Green, voluntarily attended Kent Police HQ. He was charged with conspiring to control prostitution for gain and acquiring criminal property. Yuan was remanded in custody and is set to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on 4 May, after an initial court hearing on 3 April.
Police Campaign Targets Modern Slavery Awareness
Kent Police is stepping up with a hard-hitting campaign alongside Crimestoppers UK to spotlight modern slavery and human trafficking. The initiative uses social media, local organisations like Neighbourhood Watch, town councils, and chambers of commerce to spread the word.
Leaflets in multiple languages have been distributed in communities hardest hit by exploitation, urging the public to spot the warning signs and report suspicious activities.
