Shovel Attack Horror: Four Jailed After Man Savagely Mown Down
Four men have been locked up after a brutal assault in Sowerby near Thirsk left a man hacked with shovels and badly injured. A witness said the group attacked “like a pack of hyenas to meat.”
Victim Threatened and Vehicles Smashed
The victim’s van and car, which had young kids inside, were smashed during the terrifying attack. One attacker even threatened to chop the man’s hand off in the chilling confrontation.
Justice Served: Nearly Eight Years Behind Bars
The thugs were identified as Mark Farrow, 45, John Thomas Hardy, 46, and Gary McDonald, 24, along with Walter McDonald, 24. Together they were sentenced to almost eight years in prison at Bradford Crown Court, all pleading guilty to violent disorder.

Long-Term Restraining Orders in Place
Each man was slapped with a 15-year restraining order, banning any contact with the victim.
Police Praise Rigorous Investigation
Detectives from Hambleton & Richmondshire CID launched a full investigation after the attack, which stemmed from a personal dispute. The victim suffered serious cuts and bruises but has since received support.
