Police Duo Brave Pit Bull Attack to Nab Violent Fugitive
Heroic Police Officers Take Down Armed Suspect in Balby
PC Davidson and his police dog, PD Benson, were among 11 officers honoured at the first-ever South Yorkshire Police Federation (SYPF) awards last week in Sheffield. Their fearless response to a violent wanted man in Carr Hill, Balby, back in September 2021 earned them major praise.
The suspect, a 31-year-old man, had gone on a destructive rampage before fleeing. When PC Davidson and PD Benson arrived, they immediately tracked him down despite the man wielding a glass bottle and refusing to surrender.
Dog Attack Doesn’t Stop Police Pursuit
Things took a nasty turn when the suspect’s accomplice unleashed a Pit Bull to stop the officers. PD Benson sustained cuts to his face and muzzle but stayed focused on the mission.
“PD Benson received cuts to his face and muzzle area from the dog, but despite being attacked and in pain, he did not lose focus on his task,” said PC Davidson.
After fending off the ferocious dog, PD Benson resumed the chase and helped PC Davidson apprehend the violent suspect.
Police Partnership Shines Under Pressure
PC Davidson spoke about their bond, which formed quickly after only four months working together. “I’ve been a cop for eight years, and it’s great to know that when things get tough, I can count on PD Benson. He works tirelessly to protect me and the people of South Yorkshire.”
Although PD Benson was unable to attend the ceremony, his bravery was acknowledged alongside PC Davidson’s hard work and tenacity.
South Yorkshire Chief Lauds Unbreakable Police Team
South Yorkshire Police Federation Chair Steve Kent heaped praise on the pair:
“This is police teamwork at its best. PC Davidson was determined to catch the criminal, and PD Benson not only protected his handler but also went on to catch the criminal after being attacked. I want to thank them both for their perseverance and bravery. South Yorkshire residents should be very proud. They are deserving winners.”
Congratulations to PC Davidson and PD Benson for their outstanding dedication to keeping South Yorkshire safe.
