Early Morning Raid Foiled But Cash Stolen
At 2.35am on Friday, 11 January 2022, masked men forced their way through a shop’s front door. They tried to rip out the cash machine but failed. However, the gang managed to get inside and grabbed cash from the premises before fleeing.
Police Launch Sky-High Hunt
Store security alerted officers immediately. Police scrambled to the scene with backup from the National 1 Air Service helicopter. Despite the fast response and aerial support, the robbers escaped.
Escape in Small Dark Car, Detectives Seek Help
Eyewitnesses say the suspects fled in a small dark vehicle, possibly a Volkswagen Polo or similar, heading towards New Park roundabout. No further sightings have been reported.
The 1 Criminal Investigation Department urges locals living near Skipton Road to check CCTV and doorbell camera footage for the getaway car. Motorists with dashcam videos around the time of the crime are also asked to come forward.
