Coat Heist at Fenwick Ends in Dramatic Chase
Two men made a dash for it after snatching multiple coats from Fenwick’s menswear section in the town centre on 25 January 2022. Security staff gave chase, but both managed to slip away.
Police Hot on the Trail
Quick police patrols swooped in and tracked a suspicious vehicle, tracing it back to a property on Liston Road, Tottenham. Officers from the Tonbridge Community Policing team moved in on 28 January.
Foot Chase and Public Heroics
When police entered the house, one suspect bolted on foot. An officer caught up with him nearby and detained him, thanks to several brave members of the public who jumped in to help restrain the man until backup arrived.
“The suspect was verbally and physically aggressive,” said Sergeant Ash Boxall. “I’d like to thank the drivers who stopped to help our officer make the arrest. Unfortunately, they left before we could get their details. If you were there, please contact us.”
The arrest took place in the Lansdowne Road area. Police are eager to speak with those Good Samaritans to gather any info that might aid the investigation. Call 01622 604100 with reference 46/16190/22.
Suspect Bailed but Case Ongoing
The 30-year-old man from Tottenham is currently on bail. He is due back at the police station on 24 February as enquiries continue.
