This is the first picture of Luke Brereton, 40, who was tragically stabbed to death in the heart of Wimbledon, south-west London, over the weekend.

Night Out Turns Deadly

Luke, from Mitcham, was enjoying a night out on the busy Wimbledon High Street when he was attacked shortly after 12:30am. He collapsed at the scene, surrounded by shocked onlookers.

Yesterday afternoon, his devastated family laid flowers at the spot where he fell but declined to comment. The Metropolitan Police confirmed they are providing specialist support to Luke’s relatives during this difficult time.

Suspect Charged with Murder

Amar Zafar, of Cambridge Grove Road, Kingston, was charged with murder and possession of a bladed article following the stabbing.

Forensics have scoured the scene for evidence, while detectives are combing through CCTV footage to piece together exactly what happened in the early hours.

Community in Shock

The area around Wimbledon’s bustling bars and restaurants was open at the time, with several businesses cooperating fully with police inquiries.

Local residents and business owners have laid floral tributes, expressing their sorrow and solidarity.

Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley said: “Our thoughts are with the victim’s family. We understand the impact this will have on the local community. We still need anyone who witnessed the incident or has information to come forward. No detail is too small.”
