Tragic Death of 13-Year-Old Boy in Dorset Sparks Drug Probe
Local Boy Dies After Being Found Unwell
At 5:08pm on Thursday 19 August 2021, Dorset Police were alerted by ambulance crews attending Columbia Road where 13-year-old Mehmet Altun was extremely unwell. Mehmet was rushed to hospital but sadly later died.
Police Launch Investigation Into Possible Overdose
Detective Inspector Neil Third expressed his condolences, saying, “This is a very tragic incident with such a young life being lost. My thoughts go out to Mehmet’s family and friends.”
While a post-mortem is pending, officers currently suspect Mehmet died from a drug overdose. “We believe Mehmet went out on his bike between roughly 12:10pm and 1:45pm,” DI Third added. “The bike is described as orange/red mountain bike with two different wheels.”
Police Appeal For Witnesses
DI Third urged, “If anyone saw Mehmet during that time or knows if he met anyone, please come forward. We want to piece together his movements.”
He also warned the public: “Anyone thinking of using drugs, please reconsider. Illegal substances carry unpredictable and potentially fatal risks.”
Arrest Made as Community Support Steps Up
A 14-year-old Bournemouth boy has been arrested on suspicion of supplying a Class A drug and is cooperating with police inquiries.
Neighbourhood officers will be visible in the community offering support. “If you or someone you know needs help, please speak to officers or reach out to support networks,” DI Third said.
