Tube worker brutally attacked at Edgware Road after ticket row
Violent assault over fare dodging attempt
British Transport Police have launched an urgent hunt after a man savagely attacked a Tube worker at Edgware Road Bakerloo Line station. The incident happened around 4.30pm on Friday, 13 December 2024.
The worker challenged the suspect for trying to jump the ticket barrier without a valid ticket. In response, the man punched the staff member multiple times before pushing him to the floor and making a run for it.
Police release CCTV to track suspect
BTP have now issued a CCTV image of the attacker, appealing for public help to identify him. A spokesperson said:
“Officers investigating the assault of a member of railway staff at Edgware Road Bakerloo Line station are releasing this image. Just after 4.30pm on 13 December, a member of staff challenged a man for passing through the ticket barrier without a ticket. The man responded by hitting the staff several times and pushing him to the floor.”

Calls for better protection for railway staff
The attack has sparked fresh worries about staff safety amid rising fare evasion confrontations. Transport unions are demanding stronger protections for London Underground and National Rail employees.
Police say they have boosted patrols at key Tube stations to prevent more attacks as the investigation continues.
