Teen Cyclist Trapped Under Gritting Lorry in Shocking York Crash

A terrifying crash unfolded on St Helen’s Road at the junction with Tadcaster Road around 4.45pm on Monday, December 6. A teenage cyclist from York was trapped beneath a gritting lorry and had to be freed by firefighters while paramedics rushed to treat him at the scene.

Serious Injuries and Emergency Response

The teen was rushed to hospital by ambulance with suspected serious lower-body injuries. Thankfully, the gritter driver escaped unharmed and is now assisting police with their investigation.

Road Closures and Witness Appeal

St Helen’s Road was closed for over an hour while emergency crews worked. Roads reopened just after 6pm.
