Hazardous Liquid Spray Sparks Fire Alarm in Sandown Flats
Firefighters from Shanklin rushed to a suspected hazardous materials incident in Sandown, Isle of Wight, just after 10am this morning. A block of flats on Leeds Street was quickly cordoned off after a mysterious liquid was sprayed on one of the flat doors.
HazMat Team Deployed as Mystery Liquid Causes Alarm
A HazMat-trained officer was called in to investigate the suspicious substance. The Island’s Fire and Rescue Service confirmed their presence on scene, stating: “We are attending a potential hazardous materials incident in Sandown. One fire crew is currently investigating after liquid was sprayed on a flat door.”
Bleach Used to Wash Away Substance, One Man Checked by Paramedics
Fire crews used a hose reel to wash off what is believed to be bleach from the front door. Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service checked one man at the scene.
Investigation Points to Targeted Harassment, No Public Danger
Insiders revealed the incident stems from an ongoing harassment case involving a man soon to be arrested and questioned by police. Those involved are reported to have mental health issues, and officials say the wider public is not at risk.
