Fire, Police, and Ambulance Descend on St Mary’s Road

Emergency crews were scrambled to St Mary’s Road in Cowes this evening after reports of a chemical incident. Firefighters from Newport and Cowes stations arrived with multiple fire appliances. A Hazmat officer from Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue was also deployed to tackle the potentially dangerous situation.

Road Shut and Casualties Treated

Police have sealed off part of St Mary’s Road to keep the public safe. The drama unfolded just after 7.30pm, with ambulance crews swiftly attending to the scene. Paramedics have already treated three people, including a man in his 20s.

“We have closed part of St Mary’s Road in Cowes to allow Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service to manage a hazardous chemical incident,” said a Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police spokesman. “Police remain on scene and are in contact with residents. Please avoid this area of Cowes.”
