Man Dies in Shocking Cowes Chemical Incident – Police Launch Investigation
Emergency crews were called to a Cowes home on the Isle of Wight after a 20-year-old man was found in distress and later died following suspected chemical exposure. St Mary’s Road remains sealed off as detectives and fire specialists work around the clock to unravel what happened.
Police and Fire Specialists on Scene
Officers have established a tight cordon at the property while Hampshire Fire and Rescue’s specialist teams from Winchester and Southsea have been battling the early morning hours with high-tech chemical analysis gear. They’re using a substance identification machine to pinpoint the toxic compounds involved.
Family and Paramedics Exposed to Chemicals
The quick response of Isle of Wight Ambulance paramedics was triggered by a 999 call from a family member just after 7.40pm on Wednesday. Both the family and two paramedics were taken to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport for checks after suspected exposure to fumes.
“One paramedic suffered from breathing in chemical fumes while trying to save the man,” said a police source. “Fortunately, all those affected have since been discharged.”
Investigation Underway
Specialist officers are piecing together the tragic series of events that led to the man’s death. The victim’s identity remains undisclosed as police continue their urgent probe into this grim Cowes tragedy.
