Tragic Death of Cyclist Joe Burton in Southampton Crash
Police rushed to Hill Lane, Southampton, at 9.58pm on 23 July after a collision between a car and cyclist Joe Burton, 33. Joe, from Westwood Road, was rushed to Southampton General Hospital but sadly died from his injuries.
Family Pays Heartfelt Tribute to Joe
Joe’s family remembered him as a hard-working, fun-loving man. He trained as an electrician locally and twice won apprentice of the year at Eastleigh College. His love of adventure took him across the globe, including the French Alps, Thailand, Australia, Switzerland, and two Antarctic tours with the British Antarctic Survey and Australian Antarctic Division.
“He exuded happiness and will be remembered by everyone he met, even if he barely spoke their language,” the family said. “His infectious attitude made you feel anything was possible.”
“Joe was recently married to his wife Anna and was thrilled to be building a life together. His words to us all missing him now are, ‘you’ll be alright’.”
Driver Arrested on Drug Driving Suspicion
A 24-year-old Southampton man was arrested on suspicion of two counts of drug driving. He has since been released under investigation as police continue their enquiries.
