Brighton Cracks Down on Flyposting and Stickering with Tough New Rules
From today (1 February 2023), Brighton & Hove is hitting back at flyposting and stickering with new enforcement measures. The council will now issue Community Protection Warnings (CPWs) and Community Protection Notices (CPNs) to those caught plastering the city with illegal ads and stickers.
Warnings First, Then Tough Notices
CPWs will target individuals, promoters, businesses, or organisations suspected of causing the mess. The warning demands they take “reasonable steps” to stop flyposting. If offenders ignore these warnings, the council can escalate to a CPN, which legally forces them to comply.
Cleaning Up Brighton’s Streets
A spokesperson for Brighton & Hove City Council said: “Flyposting spoils the look and feel of our city. It is difficult and costly to remove flyposters and stickers, and they often cause damage to property and other structures on our streets.”
“We’re introducing CPWs and CPNs to tackle flyposting more effectively. It means that we can target the clubs, promoters and advertisers who cause most of our flyposting issues and put responsibility back on the offender to remove the flypost.”
“Our priority is to make sure that Brighton & Hove remains a wonderful place to live, work and visit. These new measures will hopefully deter flyposters and keep our streets looking clean and tidy.”
Crackdown Aims to Protect Brighton’s Charm
The crackdown is designed to shield the city’s streets from unsightly, illegal posters and stickers. With CPWs and CPNs in place, Brighton & Hove hopes to stop flyposters in their tracks and preserve the city’s vibrant look for everyone to enjoy.
