Brass Lectern Stolen from Church Near Basingstoke – Police Launch Appeal

Police are hunting a thief who stole a brass lectern from a church near Basingstoke. The daring theft happened between 6pm on Thursday, May 26 and 11am on Friday, May 27 at St Mary the Virgin and St John the Baptist Church on the Hampshire/Berkshire border.

Thief Breaks In, Steals Priceless Brass Lectern

Someone forced open the main door and made off with the valuable lectern. The brass stand features an eagle-shaped book rest perched atop a round column with a bell-shaped base. It’s insured for a whopping £10,000.

Police Seek Help to Recover Stolen Church Artefact

A black and white photo of the lectern has been released as police ramp up their investigation.

“Have you seen this lectern recently? Do you know who was responsible for this theft?”
