Selsey Coastguard Juggles Triple Christmas Eve Callouts
The Selsey Coastguard team faced a hectic Christmas Eve, rushing out on three separate emergencies along the Sussex coast.
First Call: Bognor Bay Drama
At 07:46, the team teamed up with Littlehampton Coastguard, Littlehampton Lifeboat, and Sussex Police to respond to an incident in Bognor. The details remain under wraps, but the early morning scramble set the tone for a busy day.
Second Call: Unconscious Person in Littlehampton Harbour
Later that evening at 21:29, the coastguard was paged again. This time, they were called to assist with an unconscious individual in Littlehampton Harbour, working alongside Littlehampton Coastguard and Lifeboat crews.
Third Call: Vehicle in Water at Bosham Quay
Just before midnight, the team faced their most startling call. At 23:15, they responded to a report of a vehicle submerged in water at Bosham Quay. Hayling Coastguard, Hayling Lifeboat, Sussex Police, and the Fire Service also rushed to the scene. Thankfully, no one was inside the vehicle—everyone was accounted for safe and well, having been at a nearby church service.
Selsey Coastguard said: “Returning to the station in the very early hours of Christmas Day, hoping for a quieter day; but ready to respond and leave our friends and family to help others if need be.”
