Wife’s Heartbreaking Plea After Cop Nearly Killed in High-Speed Chase Crash
The wife of a badly injured police officer has made a desperate public appeal for witnesses following a terrifying crash in Woodford Green.
PC Jon Casey Seriously Hurt in Midnight Chase
Police Constable Jon Casey was hurt when a grey Mini Cooper ignored officers’ orders to stop on Chigwell Hill just after midnight on Monday, 6 January. After a brief pursuit, PC Casey was struck while trying to deploy a Stop Stick on Chigwell Road. The car then sped off, leaving him injured on the street.
He was rushed to hospital and remains in a serious but stable condition. His wife, Donna Casey, shared a photo of his injuries on social media, pleading for anyone who saw what happened to come forward.
Suspect Vehicle Abandoned, Two Arrested but Driver on the Run
The grey Mini Cooper, sporting false ’67’ plates, was found abandoned around 00:45 in Woolhampton Way, Chigwell. Two men aged 29 and 24 were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender but have since been released under investigation.
The driver responsible is still at large, prompting a major manhunt led by the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit.
Police Urge Public for Dash Cam Footage and Witnesses
“The officer was simply doing his duty when he was struck by the vehicle and was seriously injured – he’s lucky not to have been killed,” said Detective Sergeant Jose-Paulo Qureshi.
“The suspects fled the scene, despite knowing they had hit an officer, leaving him seriously injured in the road. We are working around the clock to find the people responsible.”
“I would appeal to those who were involved to do the right thing and hand yourself in.”
