Gunbattle Erupts Near Brixton O2 Academy – Roads Shut, Manhunt Underway
Chaos on Stockwell and Benedict Roads
Stockwell Road and Benedict Road were shut down in both directions after a furious gunfight broke out just yards from the Brixton O2 Academy in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Armed officers from the Metropolitan Police and paramedics rushed to the scene shortly after 3am on Sunday, November 27. Reports suggest a man was shot on Benedict Road near the Stockwell Road junction during the terrifying incident.
Crime Scene Packed with Bullet Casings and Damaged Cars
Detectives from the Met’s Trident unit are leading the investigation. A large crime scene has been established, with dozens of 6mm bullet casings scattered across the road – all carefully bagged by officers.
A black Mercedes, showing signs of damage, was found within the sealed-off area. Police were seen examining the vehicle closely. Meanwhile, a white BMW sits abandoned in the middle of Stockwell Road with its windows blown out. It’s understood the driver was shot at multiple times after fleeing the initial shootout.
No Arrests Yet as Police Hunt Gunman
So far, no arrests have been made. A manhunt is underway as officers trawl through CCTV footage from nearby streets to track down the suspect.
The gunfire has also wreaked havoc on local transport. Bus routes 2, 196, 322, 333, 345, and N2 are all disrupted, with further road closures in place, including the junction at Rumsey Road. These shutdowns are expected to remain for some time as the investigation continues.
The Metropolitan Police have been approached for comment.
