Tragic Knife Fight Ends in Fatal Chest Wound
Andrew Gardner confronted 19-year-old LeSean Williams on Alexandra Road on 18 September after Williams made cruel remarks about a friend’s facial disfigurement. The friend, who lived with Andrew, was deeply upset by the insults.
What started as a confrontation quickly turned deadly. Both men were armed with knives. Andrew suffered a fatal chest wound during the scuffle.
Fleeing on Scooter, Victim Dies at Hospital
Williams fled the scene on an electric scooter, while Andrew collapsed as he stumbled back home. The 41-year-old later died in hospital, leaving family and friends devastated.
Detective: ‘A Man Lost Defending His Friend’
Detective Inspector Michelle Thurgood from the homicide unit expressed sorrow over the tragic case. She said:
“This is a terribly sad case where a man has lost his life defending his friend. His family described him as ‘caring’ and told us: ‘His passing will leave a big hole in our lives, but he will be forever in our hearts.’”
Williams Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter
Williams admitted manslaughter at Birmingham Crown Court on Monday, 20 March. He is set to be sentenced on 19 May.
