Hero Dog Handler Fighting for Life After Horrific Brixton Crowd Crush

A young dog handler from Gravesend is battling for her life after being trampled in a terrifying crowd surge at Brixton’s O2 Academy on Thursday night. Gaby Hutchinson, 23, was caught in a stampede when 3,000 people forced their way into the venue.

Speaking from their home in Kent, a close family member revealed Gaby’s parents and partner are by her bedside. Medics have warned the situation is “touch and go”. Gaby is currently on life support after suffering a severe brain injury. She was simply doing her job when the nightmare unfolded.

Trampled and Left for Dead

The 23-year-old dog handler suffered a cardiac arrest on the scene and was unresponsive for around 30 minutes before emergency services arrived. She remains in a coma at St Thomas’ Hospital ICU, with severe brain bleeding. The family fears she may not survive.

“She has suffered a very serious brain injury,” the family member explained. “Doctors have even discussed turning off life support because if she pulls through, she faces severe brain damage.”

Police and Emergency Services Respond

Chief Superintendent Colin Wingrove, leading the police response, spoke out from Brixton Police Station:

“Firstly, my thoughts are with everyone affected and injured last night. Police were called to reports of large crowds trying to force entry around 9:30pm. Emergency services found multiple people with crushing injuries.”

Wingrove confirmed eight victims were hospitalised. Officers administered CPR and first aid on some casualties. An investigation led by the Specialist Crime Command is now underway as police review social media footage and bodycam videos.

The Chief Superintendent stressed that no police dogs or dog handlers were present at the scene. He called on witnesses — estimated at 4,000 — to come forward with information, adding an online portal with details will open shortly.

Disturbing Footage Under Investigation

Police are probing several viral clips. One shows an officer apparently pushing a member of the public and is under internal review. Another incident saw a member of the public assault a police officer, resulting in an arrest.

This shocking Brixton crush has left a community reeling, with prayers for Gaby’s recovery and a fight to uncover what went so horribly wrong at the packed O2 venue.
