Police Spot Suspicious Van in Downswood
At 10:40am on Monday 18 October 2021, Maidstone Task Force officers spotted a dodgy blue Vauxhall van on patrol in Downswood. When they ordered the driver to stop, he slammed the gas instead, fleeing down Otham Lane.
Crash Halts the Getaway
The van didn’t get far before crashing into an oncoming car. Police quickly checked the rear and discovered a stolen motorbike inside. On top of that, they found a stash of cannabis.
Two Men Arrested Over Theft and Drugs
The driver and a passenger, both local lads in their 20s, were arrested on suspicion of theft and possession of Class B drugs with intent to supply. The driver also faces multiple charges including dangerous driving, driving without a licence, and driving while under the influence of drugs.
Men Released as Investigation Continues
Both men were released pending further inquiries as police dig deeper into the incident.
