London Bridge Terror Attack: Victims Named as Jack Merritt and Saskia Jones
Two young heroes killed in the London Bridge terror attack on Friday, 29 November, have been named. Jack Merritt, 25, from Cottenham, Cambridgeshire, and Saskia Jones, 23, from Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, lost their lives in the horrific incident.
Cambridge Graduates Dedicated to Justice
Both Jack and Saskia were Cambridge University graduates involved in the Learning Together programme—Jack as a coordinator, Saskia as a volunteer. Their loved ones are devastated.
“Jack Merritt, our beautiful, talented boy, died doing what he loved, surrounded by people he loved and who loved him,” said Jack’s family. “He believed in redemption and rehabilitation, not revenge, and always stood up for the underdog.”
“Jack was intelligent, thoughtful, and empathetic. He was planning a future with his girlfriend, Leanne, and aimed to help those in the criminal justice system. We don’t want this tragic incident to be used as an excuse for harsher prison sentences.”
The family added, “Our thoughts are with Saskia’s family, the injured, and our colleagues at the University of Criminology. We ask the media to respect our privacy during this terrible time.”
Saskia’s family said: “Saskia was a funny, kind, and positive soul, full of mischief and generosity. She wanted to live life to the fullest and was passionate about supporting victims of criminal injustice.”
“She recently applied to the police graduate recruitment programme, hoping to specialise in victim support. We are heartbroken and ask for privacy as we mourn.”
Ongoing Hospital Care for Injured
Of the three others injured in the London Bridge attack, one has returned home. Two remain in stable condition, receiving expert hospital care.
