Gun Offender Locked Up After Armed Police Stop Mini-Cab
Jesus Da Silva, 22, from Kenwood Gardens, Redbridge, has been jailed for five years and eight months for possession of a firearm and criminal property. The sentencing took place at Woolwich Crown Court on Friday, 6 November.
Armed Police Nab Men in Southwark
On 14 July, Da Silva and an 18-year-old passenger were travelling in a mini-cab along Southwark Park Road, SE16, when specialist and armed officers stopped the vehicle following an intelligence-led operation. A revolver wrapped in a bandana was found during the search, leading to the men’s arrest on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
Investigation Led by Met’s Specialist Crime Command
Both men were taken to a south London police station and charged the next day. Da Silva pled guilty at Woolwich Crown Court on 7 October, while the 18-year-old was later released with no further action.
“This weapon could have easily gone on to seriously injure, or even kill someone,” said Detective Constable Rob Smith. “Firearms have absolutely no place on our streets and their removal makes this city a safer place for all. The Met remains committed to bearing down on violent crime and seizing weapons such as this one.”
Da Silva’s concurrent prison term sends a clear message: London’s streets must be gun-free, and criminals will face tough justice.
