Radio 2’s Sounds Of The 80s Goes Live in Stoke-on-Trent

Get ready, 80s fans! On Saturday 3 December, Radio 2’s Sounds Of The 80s is going live from the Regent Theatre, Stoke-on-Trent, for a night of pure 80s magic. Gary Davies will host this glittering bash, celebrating one of the most iconic decades in music history.

Live Performances and Classic 80s Hits

The show kicks off at 8pm and runs until 10pm. Expect all your favourite 80s classics, plus two specially curated mastermixes that’ll have you dancing all night. Live sets come from big 80s legends Clare Grogan and Holly Johnson, giving fans a treat they won’t forget.

Gary Davies says: “From Kate Bush to Madonna, Depeche Mode to Duran Duran, the 1980s was the golden age for music. I’ve had a blast sharing my 80s passion on Radio 2 for five years and now can’t wait to bring the show live to Stoke-on-Trent. So if you’re an 80s fan, put on your statement T-shirt and leg warmers, and join us for a party to remember!”

Dress Up and Join the Party

Audience members are urged to go all out with their 80s outfits: think pixie boots, day-glo T-shirts, fingerless gloves, and rara skirts. Doors open at 6.30pm, with DJ Johnny Kalifornia spinning 80s hits from 7.15pm to get the party started before the live broadcast.

Legends Talk 80s and Sounds Of The 80s

Clare Grogan of Altered Images shared: “I’m thrilled to be part of this live event. I love a big night out, and this one has all the makings of a belter! I’ll be singing and dancing to classic Altered Images tunes—hopefully without the usual falling off the stage moment!”

Holly Johnson of Frankie Goes To Hollywood said: “After sitting in for Gary last year, I’m buzzing to go live across the airwaves with him for this special show at the Regent Theatre!”

Helen Thomas, Head of Radio 2, added: “Delighted to bring Sounds Of The 80s live to Stoke-on-Trent. Gary Davies does what he does best, joined by two 80s icons. It’s going to be a fantastic celebration of classic hits.”

Iconic 80s Legends Take Centre Stage

Altered Images, led by Clare Grogan, burst onto the scene from Glasgow in 1979 with hits like Happy Birthday and I Could Be Happy. After a 39-year wait, their 2022 album Mascara Streakz marked a thrilling comeback. Clare and the band will also hit Glasgow’s St. Luke’s in December after their Stoke gig.

Holly Johnson’s band, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, revolutionised pop in 1984 with their smash album Welcome To The Pleasuredome and iconic tracks like Relax and The Power of Love. Holly capped off the decade with his platinum solo album Blast. Fresh from headlining festivals and with a new live album Unleashed From The Pleasuredome, Holly is all set to rock Stoke with Sounds Of The 80s.
