Bernhard Langer Bids Tearful Farewell at Munich Golf Classic

At 5:32pm, golfing legend Bernhard Langer closed the book on a stellar career. The German superstar sank a par putt on the 18th green at Golfclub München Eichenried, marking his 513th and final start on the DP World Tour. The 67-year-old two-time Masters champion was showered with applause and sea of Bavarian flags from 15,000 fans.

Langer’s Emotional Goodbye

Langer, visibly moved, said: “The start was already great. The first tee-off was incredibly moving, with people lining the fairways. As Marcel, Martin, and I walked down the first hole, it was a fantastic scene. The 18th green was equally memorable, with Bavarian flags and enthusiastic cheers. I’ve never experienced anything like it.”

Golf Action Stays Hot as Langer Exits

While all eyes were on Langer, the tournament buzz continued. Rising star Ewen Ferguson stole centre stage with a blistering 64, taking a two-shot lead at 13 under par. Romain Langasque trails closely, while Bernd Wiesberger, Patrick Reed, Aussies David Micheluzzi, and English duo Matthew Southgate and Jordan Smith share third at 8 under.

Langer enjoyed his last rounds alongside compatriots Marcel Siem and Martin Kaymer. Kaymer, the 2008 BMW International Open champ, made the cut, but Siem missed out by a single stroke. “Playing with Martin and Marcel was the icing on the cake,” Langer said. “It was great—the three best German golfers together for the last two rounds. A lot of fun.”

Charity Eagles and Weather Warnings

The BMW Group continues its charity drive, donating €1,000 for every eagle scored this week to youth programs JOBLINGE and Kick ins Leben. With 39 eagles already racked up, €39,000 will help boost educational opportunities for young people.

A storm warning means the third round tees off early Saturday, starting at 7:40am in three-player groups. The leaders hit off at 9:30am, aiming to finish before the weather hits.

As Langer takes his final bow, Munich’s golf club and fans salute a true icon of the sport.
