Gatwick Soars Back with 32.8 Million Passengers in 2022
London Gatwick Airport bounced back big time in 2022, serving 32.8 million passengers—71% of its pre-pandemic (2019) figures. This is a massive leap from just 6.3 million travellers the year before.
Long-Haul Routes Making a Comeback
The airport’s recovery isn’t just numbers—it’s about new connections too. Gatwick now offers 42 global long-haul routes, hitting 68% of pre-pandemic levels.
Air India is turbocharging the network, launching flights to four fresh Indian destinations: Goa, Ahmedabad, Amritsar, and Kochi (Cochin).
Delta Air Lines is back, upping the New York route to four daily flights. Meanwhile, British Airways is adding new summer routes to Vancouver, Georgetown, and Las Vegas alongside their existing services to the Caribbean, North and Central America, the Middle East, and Mauritius.
Traffic and Aircraft Movements Climb
There were nearly 214,000 aircraft movements at Gatwick in 2022, reaching 76% of the 2019 total of 281,000. This is a huge jump from just 52,000 in 2021.
Airport Boss on the Bright Future
Jonathan Pollard, Chief Commercial Officer at Gatwick Airport, said: “Today’s figures are extremely positive and clearly show London Gatwick’s continued strong recovery. We still have some way to go but we’re looking forward to welcoming even more passengers this year, including those flying to our growing choice of long-haul destinations.”
