Major Crash Closes M3 Southbound: Fire Breaks Out in Multi-Car Smash
A huge pile-up on the M3 between junctions 7 and 8 has brought the southbound carriageway to a standstill. Around 10 vehicles are involved, including one that caught fire after the collision.
Road Closure and Traffic Chaos
The southbound carriageway is fully closed while emergency services deal with the crash. Traffic is being diverted off at junction 8 onto the A303 westbound. Drivers are then advised to continue via the A34 southbound at Bullington Cross to avoid the snarled-up motorway.
Expect Hours of Delays
The closure is expected to last at least another hour, but jams could cause problems for several hours. Motorists heading south are urged to find alternative routes to dodge the gridlock.
No serious injuries have been reported so far.
